Ultra-Processed People: Why Do We All Eat Stuff That Isn’t Food… and Why Can’t We Stop? by Dr. Chris van Tulleken is a wake-up call and a fascinating read.
Chris van Tulleken carefully exposes the hidden dangers of these food-like substances that dominate many modern diets and shows how they are making us addicted, sick, and obese. He also reveals the powerful interests behind the food industry and the lack of regulation and transparency that allow them to profit from this situation.
I like the book because it is not a didactic exposé – it does not tell the reader what to think or do, and it offers solutions and examples of how to reclaim our right to good, affordable food and improve our well-being. It combines scientific rigour, personal experience, and humour. The audiobook is also worth a listen as it is well narrated and includes interesting exchanges between Chis and his twin brother, Xand. I thoroughly recommend it.
